Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

CPR is an artificial method of circulating blood and oxygen through the body in order to keep the brain alive.  The mouth-to-mouth resuscitation method is used to revive unresponsive victims that includes chest compressions and air that is provided to maintain adequate oxygenation.

Steps for Adult CPR

1. Shake & Shout: "Are you ok, are you ok?"

2.  If no response, call 911.

3.  Get down, look, listen and feel (head tilt, chin lift).

4.  Give two initial breaths.

5.  Check for signs of life (look for the chest rising and falling and feel for their breath on your cheek).

6.  If no signs of life, then start CPR.

7.  Position your hands in the center of the sternum (one hand on top of the other/heel of hand at the center of the chest).

8.  Compress 30 compressions then give 2 breaths (alternate step 8 five times) then check for signs of life (after the 5th time).

This should take you two minutes and compress an inch and a half to two inches in depth at the rate of 100 per minute.

Steps for Child CPR

This should take you two minutes and compress 1/3 to 1/2 depth into the body cavity at the rate of 100 per minute.
